The Art of Hand-Knotted Rugs: 25 Years of Master Craftsmanship

Hand-knotted rugs represent the pinnacle of rug weaving. Unlike tufted or machine-made floor coverings, every single yarn in a hand-knotted rug is manually tied around warp threads by skilled artisans using techniques honed across generations.

At The Rug Imports, our master weavers in India, Nepal, and Afghanistan select only high-altitude Ghazni wool and real Mulberry silk. A single 9x12 rug can contain up to 1.5 million individual hand knots, taking anywhere from 4 to 8 months to complete.

The result is a textural masterpiece that is not only extraordinarily plush underfoot, but also remarkably resilient—engineered to endure decades of foot traffic and become a cherished family heirloom.
